Gortel-Niersen (T for Tommy)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Op\u00a0 april 2019\u00a0 vond de jaarlijkse herdenking bij het monumentje\u00a0 \u201cT for Tommy\u201d plaats aan de Gortelseweg \/Veenwegje nabij Gortel. Herdacht werd dat de 4 motorige Britse Stirling bommenwerper hier neerstorte op 16 dec 1942 waarbij alle bemanningsleden op een na omkwamen. De 6 slachtoffers liggen begraven op de begraafplaats aan de Tongerenseweg in Epe.<br \/>\nDe herdenking wordt jaarlijks georganiseerd door Broken Wings in samenwerking met de Vereniging Gortel Niersen. Sindsdien wordt er samen gewerkt met CBS het Mosterdzaadje in Gortel maar door een verbouwing van de bassisschool waren maar enkele kinderen aanwezig.<\/p>\n<p>Medewerking verleende het korps Seaforth Highlanders met Pipes and Drums, dat is altijd weer indrukwekkend. De erewacht werd gevormd door de Oud Mariniers o.l.v.Jaap van Huffelen. Het Vaassens Fanfarekorps verleende de verdere muzikale omkleding.<br \/>\nHet welkomstwoord werd uitgesproken door de voorzitter van Broken Wings; Hans Achterbergh. Na samenzang van een koraal werd de \u201cOde of Remembrance \u201d uitgesproken\u00a0door Jolanda van Hoven van de vereniging Gortel Niersen. Hierbij worden ook de namen van de gesneuvelden genoemd. \u201cWe will remember them\u201d. Daarna werd de \u201cLast Post\u201d geblazen, een minuut stilte gehouden en daarna werden de vlaggen gehesen gevolgd door het Nederlandse en Engelse volkslied.<br \/>\nBloemen werden gelegd door de Vereniging Gortel Niersen en Broken Wings waarna de aanwezigen de poppykruisjes plaatsten.<br \/>\nNa dankwoord aan alle belangstellenden en allen die een bijdrage hebben geleverd aan deze herdenking werd na het \u00a0eresaluut achter de Seaforth Highlanders afgemarcheerd.<\/p>\n<p>Het was een mooie, eenvoudige maar indrukwekkende herdenking voor deze dappere vliegers die hun leven gaven voor onze vrijheid. We hopen hen nog vaak te herdenken.
